The Goleta City Council on Monday will consider a proposal to add 12 buildings to a business park that sits on 92 acres once owned by Delco. Sares Regis Group hopes to greatly expand its Cabrillo Business Park at 6767 Hollister Avenue and Los Carneros Road. At 956,000 total square feet, it would be the largest such park in Santa Barbara County.
Years in the making, the project if approved would bring new jobs and millions of dollars in new tax revenue along with wetlands, roadway improvements along Los Carneros and public access to onsite recreation areas. It would also eat up existing open space — in particular, an area used to test the Lunar Rover during the Apollo space race. |

For the first time in years, Santa Barbara leaders are expected to pass a balanced budget in 2008-09.

The following year looks equally good. |

Residents who live in recreational vehicles will have more spaces to park in city lots as part of a court settlement between Santa Barbara and a group that challenged a city ban on the practice.
On Tuesday, the City Council opened up nine spaces in three parking lots, bringing the total parking spaces for RVs in the region to about 55. The new spaces will open in the Carrillo commuter lot on Castillo Street, the Cota Street commuter lot and the visitor center at Garden Street and Cabrillo Boulevard. |

The hole in the county’s retirement fund has widened to $257 million, but an analyst told the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday he expects the number to fall after officials finish paying off stock market losses from several years ago. While the county has amassed $1.86 billion in its fund to pay retirees, actuaries reported that the overall deficit climbed more than $10 million over the previous year. Still, the forecast remains solid, retirement administrator Oscar Peters said. |
